 once again...

Easter  is the central feast in the Christian liturgical year.  According to the Canonical gospels, Jesus  rose from the dead on the third day  after his crucifixion . His resurrection is celebrated on Easter Day or Easter Sunday (also Resurrection Day or Resurrection Sunday).
The chronology  of his death and resurrection is variously interpreted to have occurred between AD 26 and 36.
Easter marks the end of Lent , a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.
The last week of the Lent is called Holy Week, and it contains Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus.
Easter is followed by a fifty-day period called Easter tide or the Easter Season, ending with Pentecost Sunday.

Easter is a movable feast,  meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar
The First Council of Nicaea established the date of Easter as the first Sunday  after the full moon   following the northern hemisphere's vernal equinox.
Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover  by much of its symbolism, as well as by its position in the calendar.

Easter customs vary across the Christian world, but decorating Easter eggs  is a common motif. In the Western world,  customs such as egg hunting  and the Easter Bunny  extend from the domain of church, and often have a secular character.

Now, I have to get up and work at putting together a beautiful Easter vignette. Thanks for the inspiration!

Gorgeous Easter displays - although if this were in my house the chocolate bunnies under the cloche would definitely have little nibbles on them. I missed your post on Pauline's garden - how truly exquisite. I just adore this kind of garden - full of romantic corners, stone, rusty iron, plants allowed to wander, not overly manicured or perfect. I will be visiting this post again and again. Have a wonderful Easter. X Sharon

Dear Colette, I really love the eggs decorated with vintage sheet music...and I can totally relate to all of the events surrounding Easter in the Liturgical calendar, being raised as a Catholic....your decorations are very whimsical and I especially appreciate that they have personal meaning.
I lost my Mother during Holy Week, a beautiful time of year, of resurrection and promise. Thank you for such an insightful post. N.xo

I love your ostrich eggs and will have to try that myself since they would look nice out anytime. You really put out the decorations and have put me to shame, time to get moving! Your vignettes are wonderful!

It is refreshing to read someone who understands and still observes the lenten and Easter liturgical traditions.
I wish you a thoughtful Holy week, and a glorious Easter.
