Here is the latest update to Pauline's White house as promised..
I have been savouring it a bit before sharing, well I suppose the same as turning that exciting find over and over, really taking it all in. I love Pauline and Henk's home. For me it is like sitting down with the best book found, no interruptions, just the luxury of time to fully enjoy each page...
When Pauline so kindly and graciously allowed me the freedom to walk through her home and garden to capture images for my blog, I was once again struck by her attention to detail. The smallest item has it's perfect special place. Since the first post I did on her home, subtle changes have been made with a huge impact. Black, charcoal and script have been introduced throughout the house and I love it even more, which surprised me because I could not imagine anything added to the already gorgeous rooms before...
note to Pauline:.... my name is stuck underneath this chest...

Kitchen update:
Perfect marriage of glass, pewter and green
This is my absolute favorite room...the wash room..sun room, best room...When Pauline said she was hoping I would visit before the leaves drop, I had no idea just how special it was..the creeper has made it's way inside under the eaves and continues to lank it's way across the room. This is impossible to re-create and I can fully understand why even the plant's want to be inside!
The perfect spot to rest in between doing the laundry...my kind of place since I am happiest surrounded by my vintage linens...
Where the people of the house come to rest..
In the powder room, there is an amazing crocheted panel in the door made by Pauline's mother, complimented by another embroidered version in English of "Onse Vader..."
Surrounded by family members and memorabilia in Henk's study
Another refreshing surprise...
The TV -media room...yes it can be done. It can look pretty when out on display!
Thank you Pauline, Henk and Imke for inviting us into
your serene beautiful inspiring abode..
A bientot

Thank you for sharing - I loved looking through the house. I gave several gasps of recognition - unexpected as I am in Chicago and these items are in South Africa. I also have hat forms, and a set of wooden lawn bowls. I love them and am happy to see that others do to. And that of course extends to the beautiful monogrammed french linen.
ReplyDeleteWhich brings me to a side note - let us know as soon as you are willing to ship to the States!
All the best to you and your family,
Cris
Hi Colette,
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say other then you really lift my spirits when I receive a visit from you, I have admired your design style for about 2 + years now following you and am never disappointed when I leave inspired to create in the likeness of what you have created for us when we visit.
Perhaps my piece would inspire you to create similar for your wee ones! doing something in the line with all the vintage fabrics of life, even doing your little ones hands as I have holding their beach sand pale with your favorite saying that may mean something to them and your heart.
I see the closeness you have and the way you dress them for their beach holidays, you could so glue down cut-outs to a paper post board and layer as I have done with paper then perhaps a piece of there old cloth from some sort of frock to glue that down in a shape of their hands with their buckets of treasures...just a thought, I know you would out do me with your South Africa-ness! and your vintage fabrics would be so meaningful, you can frame in in anything as I have done in a frame that once held a mirror and little shutters that I removed to make a frame from.
Blessings to you and yours,
A beautiful out of Africa weekend.

Such loveliness all in one house! I could visit there again ... and again ... and again! Where is it situated btw? and thank you ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat's not to love in every room. I love textiles so the cabinet stacked with delicious colors of quilts was beautiful and I love the openness of the home and all that light streaming in. That would definitely be a dream home for me.
ReplyDeleteLove her updated kitchen~ thanks for sharing!!

Oh Colette, I had to revisit this! It has caused me to change up a few things in my kitchen redo.....omitting some overhead cabinets for open shelving and keeping the islands white distressed instead of the former colour for one of them.....thank you again for such inspiration....I have come back a dozen times!
